Next.js & Headless Architecture Overhaul: Cutting LCP to 0.8s and Boosting Checkout Conversion by 47%

Project Name

SpeedVelocity Web Engine

Client

OmniTech Hardware

Duration

3 Months

Budget

$175,000

Case Overview

OmniTech Hardware operated an enterprise e-commerce platform burdened by an outdated monolithic CMS architecture. Pages took over 6 seconds to become interactive on mobile 4G networks, causing 60% of potential buyers to bounce before product pages loaded. They partnered with MJ Digi Solution to rebuild their digital storefront using modern headless technology.

Challenges

  • Massive Monolithic Code Bloat:Over 4MB of uncompressed legacy JavaScript and third-party tracking scripts blocked main thread execution.
  • Failing Google Core Web Vitals:Severe Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS: 0.42) and poor Interaction to Next Paint (INP: 480ms) penalized Google organic rankings.
  • Database Query Bottlenecks:Legacy server queries took 1.8 seconds to fetch dynamic stock availability during peak flash sale traffic surges.
  • Non-Responsive Mobile Navigation:Navigation menus froze on mobile devices, preventing users from discovering targeted category hierarchies.

Our Strategy

We architected a headless, edge-rendered Next.js 16 application backed by a modular headless CMS and optimized GraphQL queries. We implemented automated WebP/AVIF image transformations, zero-runtime CSS styling, and server-side edge caching on global CDNs. Interactive components were deferred with streaming SSR and progressive hydration.

Results Achieved

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) plummeted from 6.2s to 0.82s, Core Web Vitals achieved a 100/100 score on Google Lighthouse, checkout conversion rates soared by 47.4%, and mobile organic revenue grew by $1.4M in the following quarter.
